Taking Out the Tension, New Massage Program in Mesa, AZ

Mesa, AZ September 7, 2004 -- Hands-on education will go to a deeper level with the introduction of a new Massage Therapist program at Pima Medical Institute, 957 S. Dobson Road in Mesa. PMI is currently accepting students for the new program that is scheduled to begin in early October.
    
The curriculum includes Swedish Massage, Therapeutic Massage, Sports Massage, Reflexology, Specialty Massage (geriatric, pregnancy, corporate chair and lymphatic) as well as training in Anatomy, Physiology, Computer Training, Practice Development, Law and Ethics, Wellness Education, Kinesiology, Pharmacology and Pathology, as well as Asian Theory and Bodywork.
    
The 720-hour curriculum is completed in 36 weeks for students taking day classes and 41 weeks for those enrolled in the evening program.    
    
Todays growing trend is total wellness, said Fredonna Newton, campus director for the Mesa vocational school. Whether they are using massage therapy to improve a medical condition or for stress relief and relaxation massage is for everyone.
    
As part of the training students will complete an internship in PMIs new Student Clinic and Day Spa where they will learn skills such as how to manage a clinic or spa from the front office, ordering supplies, taking inventory as well as retail product sales. The clinic will be staffed by student therapists and be open to the public six days a week.
    
The Pima Medical Institute Student Clinic and Day Spa will allow everyone the opportunity to experience massage therapy and spa treatments at an affordable cost, and most important, give our students real-life experience, said Newton.
